Regarding changing the design.

I would not do so unless you plan to verify the design.

Right now we have a fair amount of history with the current design.  There
are >1 hundred rex out there. I have 20 model T I test with and still make
plenty of mistakes.

Introducing hardware variants sounds like a disaster for support..   who
Would want to have multiple sw streams or worse firmware and or software
streams aligned to different hardware ?

The cpld must be xcr3064xl vq 44 and can be purchased.  I can make some
flash chips available.
