The only things I can think of are flaky physical issues... faulty cable connection, faulty wiring. I have seen pins go bad on usb-serial devices but once they're bad they tend to stay bad. When this has happened I suspect ESD or power surges. In such cases you round file it and get another adapter. What client are you using? TEENY? TS-DOS? -- John.
