Someone recently mentioned the idea that nicads were becoming hard to find and I figured it might be a good idea to finally proactively replace mine. I ordered a two pack off ebay and swapped mine out today. It was starting to show very minor signs of corrosion. Not enough to reach the motherboard yet but I'm glad I replaced it when I did. So I just wanted to say thanks for the info and the inspiration to do some proactive maintenance on my vintage computer before it became a problem.
I picked up my M102 off Craigslist probably around 8 or 9 years ago. At
that time, I found club100 and had fun messing around with it for a
while until it eventually found a home sitting on a shelf running a
digital clock program, which it has done reliably for many years. A few
months ago I've pulled it down and started playing around with it again
and started lurking on this list. I've looked at the nicad/supercap
discussions with mild interest but it wasn't a problem I had so I mostly
didn't care too much.
