I'll second Jeff on this. I have one MT that had a nasty looking battery 
compartment; like a mold infestation. I did need to rework the battery 
connectors. Clean it up as Jeff mentioned and maybe a good bath with isopropyl 
alcohol and dried with a can of air.

It does not look terrible. The PCB does not look corroded, but it did do a 
number on the ribbon cable for the screen. I would be tempted to at least crimp 
a new connector on it (if long enough and not corroded to far up the cable.) 
You can clean the battery contacts with vinegar, lemon juice, etc. I even saw 
someone use CLR which I thought was a novel idea.

The electrolytic caps in the power supply section (well all of one type/brand 
in my case) tend to leak and it is a good idea to replace them. I did a video 
on that which might help if you want to tackle it yourself.
