John, you were right...  The screen flashing was just due to a low
(actually, none installed) backup battery.  The WP-2 arrived today and is
in practically pristine cosmetic shape and seemingly perfect working order
- a lucky find for a very reasonable price.  I will want to upgrade the
RAM, but that’s simple and inexpensive to do.  Not sure what type of memory
cards were used - looks too small to be PCMCIA.

As for the typing / typo insertion bug, maybe I type too slowly for that to
even happen.  :)   Or maybe this was a later model.  I haven’t experienced
that issue yet.  So, I’m a happy camper.
