This is normal operation. My 102 does this, and my M100 did this when it was new in the box in 1985.
When the unit is powered on and running on batteries, plugging in external power briefly interrupts power as the power jack switches from battery to external power. This trips the internal power switch (used when the unit goes to sleep from the power off timer). The reverse is also true, if the unit is powered on via external power. In order to reset the internal power switch, the external power switch must be shut off then back on again. I believe this was mentioned somewhere in the Users Manual. Today, the display goes blank when plugged into power adapter. If it?s on battery power and displaying the menu, and then I plug it in, it goes blank. If I plug it in and then turn it on, it?s blank. Unplugging does not enable the display. I have to unplug and turn it off and back on again.
