I'd say #1 problem with units off of eBay is their memory power switch is on but they have been in storage long enough that the nicd power is low and the ram state has decayed just enough that the machine doesn't function properly even with a cold start until everything is drained and then the nicd charged up again.
Second would be corrupted ram state due to a CO program run amok or tsdos used to inload a DO as a BA. Both of these are more software than hardware though. -- John.
