A super cap will work that is not the problem. The issues come down to making one fit, holding it in place, and that it does not back up nearly as long as the original NiCad did. None of these may be deal breakers for someone, I thought it was fun to try. For the average user popping in a NiMh is easier as it is a direct swap and works the same way the NiCad did.
