Of course, the big question is... do you know about TS-DOS and the disk drive emulators?
I use TS-DOS and LaddieAlpha on my PC. This lets the PC act like a disk drive for my Tandy 102, bypassing all of the issues you're having. The best and easiest way to get TS-DOS is to pick up the "REX" module, which not only includes TS-DOS, but lets you load other ROMs onto its flash storage and back up your Tandy's memory, as well. Between REX storage and my PC, I have all the storage I could ask for, and moving BA files to the computer is simple and fast. As to converting binary and ASCII BASIC files - the easy way is with the emulator, VirtualT. It can read and write both formats, making it easy to convert back and forth.
