No matter the choice, people will have varied comfort levels with it, Discord or IRC or other.

That said, IRC has been around since at least 1991, so it's been possible to have a Model T channel for some time.  The fact that one does not appear to be in use suggests most people who would use such a channel are not interested in doing so on IRC.

I love IRC as well, but for those with an iPhone (I realize you have a PinePhone, and some have Androids where this is not such an issue), there are very few ways ot get IRC notifications on the device.  IN today's world, having access to chat on the phone is more important that it has been before.

The nice thing is that there is a "bot" for DIscord that will bridge an IRC channel and a Discord channel (The ClassicCMP group uses one, so I've seen it operate), reflecting comments in one system onto the other system.  As such, I'd say it's a best of both worlds option.  IRC for the dieHard IRCers, and Discord for those who wish a newer UI and some addition (optional) items like audio and video chat, etc.)
