Gmail in particular is pretty strict on impersonation in the From: header regardless of what Reply-To looks like; we ran into this a bunch at work, where we send tens of millions of emails a day on behalf of millions of users. I had to tweak postfix and some of the product code to work around it. Mailman, though, apparently has some ability to do munging that would mitigate it. It's been a couple of decades since I last ran an installation of Mailman so I couldn't really say how to set up munging.
