I've got a European Model 100, and ran into this problem. I use a custom ROM in 
mine, called LibROM, and it works just fine. I didn't need to do any soldering, 
the ROM in my machine is socketed.

Note I'm assuming the Model 100 and 102 are similar enough for the ROMs to work 
in both, and I might be wrong here.
