It could be either; that's exactly what I was saying here:

"This is the same output you'd expect if the program executed correctly to completion."

The simulated program called exit() to say that it was done executing. You'll have to look at the simulated program's output (in the stdout or stderr files) to see if it thought it executed successfully or not.
