I don't know that many people (if anybody) is running that number of CPUs. 
In general, I think we say you can get about 2-3 mips with the simple 
model and 50-100 kips with the detailed model.  That is of course divided 
by the number of cpus you have to figure out what your overall rate is. 
The simple cpu has some ability to not use simulation time if it is not 
doing anything, so idle cpus don't cost much.

spawn threads, yes.  How effective they are is another question.  If they 
are mostly user level, probably not too bad.  If they use the kernel a 
lot, probably not so good since the linux mp support isn't all that great.
