I think you're misreading the email archives... cpu2000.py is not intended for direct use in FS mode, just in SE mode, but it can be useful to read it to figure out what needs to be done in FS mode.
There was a fair amount of dicsussion on the list in early August and early September about this. If someone would be willing to summarize on the wiki (if it's not there already) that would be much appreciated. I see that we already have a page started at http://m5sim.org/wiki/index.php/SPEC2000_benchmarks but it's woefully inadequate.
