You probably have the interpreter binary installed but not the shared
library.  The way to fix that depends on your distro (or if you compiled
Python from scratch).  See the Python section here:

I do this all the time.  I use VMware Server (also free), but Player should
work fine too.  (I think Player is better if you want to use X native in the
VM.  I just use a Windows X server (cygwin on xp has been great, but I
recently switched to vista and Xming works better there) and open windows
"remotely" on the VM, in which case I don't know if it matters which one you
use.)

As far as performance, I think there is a small performance hit for I/O, so
compiles are a little slower due to the disk I/O.  The simulator itself is
CPU-bound though and as far as I can tell it's just as fast under VMware as
native.

Any help on the two issues would be greatly appreciated.
