I have very mixed feelings about Rain Rein Nevermind. His writing can be very creative and entertaining, and it can also be very bothersome. When I first "met" him online he was making some very nasty anti-gay remarks. For a long while he was very disruptive on this one website: http://www.crosses.net/mailartforum/list.php4?f=4
I don't know if he'e been so bad recently, but I couldn't use that website for a long time because Rain Rein was posting fake calls and many rude remarks. He is on the IUOMA email list and Ruud has decided to tolerate him there. Sometimes Rain Rein is very active posting many long long posts of creatve nonsense and sometimes he is quiet. For me it was OK to have Rain Rein on one list and not on this list. This list was a refuge from his craziness, while the other list was an indulgence. I have never snail mailed Rain Rein. Other individuals have told me privately that he can be very cruel and hurtful personally. I have corresponded with a few other individuals in mail art, who are enormously creative, but who end up being emotionally demanding and draining. And I suspect, mentally ill. I've had to cut off correspondance with them. I can't take care of everybody. I've seen this sort of problem in other democratic non-mail art groups: a disruptive individual joins an group that is meant to be open to everyone, then a debate ensuing about whether is it OK to ask the disruptive person to leave. What happens all too often is that the disruptive person stays, then most of the productive people in the group drop out, and the group falls apart. I appreciate the work Geert has put into this list to make it pleasurable and productive. - Tamara Wyndham --- [email protected] wrote: Date: Sun, 08 May 2005 00:47:43 -0000 From: "ross_priddle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: scapegoat i don't know why it bothers me, but it bothers me: i can't seem to see the justification for the exclusion of Rain Rien Nevermind from this group: mailart as an exclusive club? is anyone else not welcome? maybe we should have a regular purge and vote the "undesirables" out of the group. if the guy is guilty of some sort of mail-art "crime" let's hear the charges: give him a fair trial at least. whatever happened to the OPEN eternal network? to the no JURY?
