Exhibition Racing Pages:
Altered Books Portfolio - LGBT Community Center, NYC

Deadline November 16:

Artists are invited to submit work for a group
exhibition & fundraiser for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual
& Transgender
Community Center, curated by Rory Golden. This art
project and exhibition will debut
Spring 2006 at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual &
Transgender Community
Center in New York. The project will be a variable
edition of “altered book
pages”. The curator will strip the spines off a wide
range of selected books relating to
race and sexuality resulting in stacks of pages.
Selected artists will
be given a stack of pages to re-invent, any or all as
the artist sees fit,
into ten finished 2D art pieces. Conceptually, the
artists will be asked to
address thoughts on the wide range of issues and
topics around race and
sexuality.
These pieces may be ten unique images or a variable
edition of ten. The
pieces should be no larger than 12” x 18” to ensure
they will fit in the
portfolio.
An edition of ten handmade portfolios will contain a
work by each
artist. The LBGT Center will sell the portfolios to
benefit the Center’s programs so the artist’s
contribution of 10 pieces of original artwork for the
portfolio will be tax deductible. The opportunity to
exhibit and sell other artwork is a possibility.

Interested artists are invited to submit:
Samples of creative work, 5 – 10 images (slides or CD
of compressed
jpg images); Statement of Purpose; Brief bio OR
artist’s resume. Send to:
Racing Pages, LGBT Community Center, 208 W. 13th
Street, NY, NY 10011.

Selected artists will be notified in early December
2005 and further
information/materials will be given at that time.
Finished work will be
due in mid-February 2006.
