Eden Morfaux, a French artist I met here in Paris, did exactly that... he produced 8 pulpits out of wood, showed them for one day in succession at Le Cube Rouge here in Paris, then unleashed them on the public, placing them in parks, street corners, next to buildings all over the 14th arrondisement. It was a fascinating project, extremely well executed that touched upon minimalist sculpture à la Artscwhager, social function, public function, speech, silence, found object and of course theft, grafitti and destruction (within a day or two all of the pulpits were destroyed, vandalized or stolen, the last one taken by a church!).
These mystery sculptures had an origin. Here's the story in French w/links from the story to Eden's site showing the pulpits in situ around Paris: http://lalandedigitalpress.blogspot.com/2007/09/un-pupitre-dans-le-jardin-deden.html Feel free to leave a comment on the blog in English or French or whatever...
