yes, you can toggle between reading characters and words (inside MA). It
will default back to reading the entire line after a few seconds of
inactivity.

I'm sorry I wasn't more specific. The Status has a physical qwerty 
keyboard and is the candy bar type phone. Mine is set for characters and 
words. Do I need to set it for characters only? Thanks and this is very 
good news if can do this!
