Almost a year ago, I purchased MA for $99.00 US. I was promised that the $99.00 would include frequent improvements and updates to the product. In the past year, there have been no significant fixes or updates. If I was the owner of an organization that releases a product like MA that has the bugs that it has, I'd be ashamed to admit to the ownership.
When I first got my phone, I could at least answer the thing without much trouble. There was a minor upgrade to the Android operating system and now the phone app in MA no longer works. MA has the option to use the volume up and volume down buttons to answer and hang up a call. It doesn't work. Who in the modern world would have an application designed to answer phone calls without the ability to do it. Who would have an accessible phone application that requires you to use the inaccessible android standard phone application? Look around the Android market. A great deal of the apps out there are $2, $6, $11, and many are free. Even the free ones have frequent updates. The higher priced $99.00 MA's phone app has gone backwards. I didn't pay for backwards. I paid for forwards. When I was looking for an Android phone, I checked the CF web site and found the following heading: "Most Popular Phones". The 3rd phone listed under Android was the HTC Desire Z. This looked like a nice phone to me and I got it with a three-year contract with Bell Canada. In the beginning it wasn't too bad. But with the android upgrade from version 2.2 to 2.3, the MA phone app stopped working. And, as we (including the people from CF) have all read over and over again on this MA discussion list, there are better choices than the HTC phones. Would we consider the HTC Desire Z to be popular among visually impaired Android users? I doubt it. Why is it still listed on the CF web site as " popular among existing Code Factory customers"? Why hasn't CF addressed the problems that its customers are having with one of the "most popular phones? When I paid them my $99.00, I paid them to do just this. Over the past year, they haven't. So, I don't think I should be hearing this "be greatful for what I have" sentiment. When I pay for something, I expect to get what I paid for; not something less. I at least expect to have the most basic functions on a phone, the ability to answer and hang up calls. I don't expect to have to find some work-around for something that doesn't work. At least we have a screen reader. We should be greatful for what we have. A year or so ago, I never would've thought that something like this existed, and I am so greatful to Cf. Everything needs work, but they're trying, and complaining about it isn't getting anyone anywhere. So I just say, thank you to Codefactory for giving this product to us. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jarrod Jicha" <[email protected] To: "'Mobile Accessibility Android Users List'" <[email protected] Date sent: Thu, 24 May 2012 14:11:55 -0400 Subject: RE: [MA] Braille support goes Android with Mobile Accessibility you should listen to my podcast on ICS with MA. it leaves a lot to be desired. if you want to hear it. go to www.jjhof.com/android/ics/podcast07.mp3 and you will see what I mean. More features. When reading about updates, the only thing it said was braille support. while that is ok and all, a lot of people will not benifit from that cause braille devices are higher than they need to be and people just don't have monies to spend on that sort of thing. Well, some don't anyway. Along with righting on this list, I also incurrage u all to actually email cf directly. It may get some ware and it may not but at least u tried. If braille is the only item that's been added for support just because the iPhone had it first, then its quite disappointing. don't get me wrong, braille is a priority but don't be like freedom scientific. adding more features and not fixing your existing bugs!
