Hello,

I just subscribed to MA mailing list. I'm a legally blind person, but I can still use my eyes, although in very limited ways. To describe my vision to people with normal sight, I found the best approximation to tell them my better eye operates in 160x120 px resolution.

As such, I always tend to check things with my bare eyes first, then choose an appropriate tool to get as much of the perceived reality as possible. So I own several optical tools with varying magnification level, and I even found some simple tools for my PC and other devices which co-operate in similar manner.

Unfortunately, accessibility solutions refuse to work as tools for occasional use. Most screen magnifiers (especially on PC) are messing in such depths of underlying OS, they effectively limit ways I can use my system when such tools are enabled. Screen magnifiers fail to co-operate with apps utilizing DirectX graphics, screen readers tend to talk in situations I don't want them to (remember, I can still use my eyes), and so on.

This said, most assistive technologies I tried got discarded by me, since I found them to be more a hurdle than a help.

I'm now playing with MA on my Sone Ericsson Xperia Pro. My following messages will contain my impressions, questions, suggestions, and a feedback in general. I hope I'd be able to put MA in use as a tool which can help, but which can stay out of my way if not needed.

And now a little bit about me. I'm a music teacher, and gadgets are my big hobby - including computers, tablets, cell phones, stereos, and similar devices. I consider myself being a power user, who likes to read docs to learn as much as possible. I rarely ask a question to which an answer can't be found in accompanying docs, but that doesn't mean I can't miss a thing or two. My other hobbies are books and travels. My native language is Czech, and I live in a rather small Czech town near the borders with Slovakia. I can be found on Facebook and Google+, I'm a passive Twitter user. (I just follow other people, my tweets are very rare.) I can be found on Skype too. And that's it about social networks I actively use.

Tomas Valusek aka TomVal

P.S.: My name contains accented letters. I prefer to strip down accents when communicating with english-speaking people. My name with accents is Tomáš Valůšek. If you see a garbage instead of accented chars, it means there are some configuration problems (maybe on my side too, but I'm not aware of any on my end)
