Well I have two email accounts setup on my phone.
The one I use with the m.a. app is my Gmail account, and the one I use with
the email app that came with my phone, I use another.
They both work pretty well.
Try using the m.a. app, for one email account, and the email app, that comes
with your phone, with another. Hopefully that would work for you.

I find it really anoying to only set up one email and have to switch
between clients to be able to check my different emails. I guess if
you only have one email then it is great. But if you have multiple
emails it becomes difficult (especially if one of them is an outlook
account).
I like k-9. My only problem with it is that you cannot edit the emails
(at least I can't). Meaning I can't get the client to read the message
line by
line or word by word. Do you have a suggestion regarding that?
