My apologies for the unfortunate timing on my phone call. I was
wondering if you're using Ma as your regular screen reader on your GS4
and if so, how you like it.
Thanks,

Hello everyone,
The following are steps I've outlined in order to show you how to
input text when using Mobile Accessibility (Wireless Accessibility) on
an android device. For the sake of this message, we will use the
sinario that the Mobile Accessibility settings are at their defaults,
and have not been changed in the least.
In order to configure Mobile Accessibility for text input, after
installing but before launching Mobile Accessibility do the following:
1. Either with talkback enabled or with sighted assistance, go into
your settings.
2. From there, depending on the type of device you have and version
of android, you want to look for language and input.
3. Inside language and input you need to make sure that the "Wireless
Accessibility Keyboard" option is checked as one of the selected input
methods.
Once you've completed the above steps, do the following:
1. Enable Mobile Accessibility in the accessibility settings on your
device.
2. Disable talkback.
3. Restart your device. This will ensure a clean startup so no
residual effects or settings from the previously running screenreader
will be operating.
4. on restart, open up Mobile Accessibility. (The easiest way to do
this is to have it on your home screen. Place it in either the top
left or top right corners if you have a hard time remembering by feel
about where apps are.
5. Once Mobile Accessibility is open, use one finger to explore and
find "Settings."
6. Within settings, you first need to go swipe down until you hear
"Text Input." When you do, double tap the screen. This will open it up.
7. Once you've opened this area of settings up, swipe downward again
until you hear "Virtual keyboard" spoken. Double tap on this.
8. Within virtual keyboard, you want to first make sure that your
volume buttons are used to open/close the keyboard. This needs to be
checked. It was checked on my device by default. You can also
optionally choose whether or not to enable the option to use your
volume up button to cycle between the input methods: lowercase,
numeric, symbols, and uppercase.
9. Once you've done this, swipe down until you hear "Advanced"
spoken. Double tap here.
10. In here are two options. You can set system defaults, and you can
choose whether or not to use system default input method settings
within wireless accessibility. I recommend for now, making sure you
**DO NOT** use your system default input method (in otherwords the
default keyboard method you have set) within your system-wide
settings. This means you will be using the Mobile Accessibility
Keyboard option, but only within Mobile Accessibility. This checkbox
is the second one and is unchecked by default. Leave this as is.
11. Exit the settings for Mobile Accessibility by pressing the "Back"
button repeatedly until you hear you are back within the Mobile
Accessibility main screen.
12. Use a finger to explore until you find calendar. I am using the
calendar feature for this example since so many of us have reported
difficulties in getting this to work. Once you've found calendar,
double tap it.
13. Press the "Menu" button and double tap on "new event."
14. Now you are presented with a typical dialogue box where you can
input your event information. The event name or subject field is
first. Double tap toward the top of your screen. You may or may not
have to do this.
15. Long press your volume up key. This will open your keyboard. if
you've followed the steps in the first part of this message, you
should see that the keyboard to enter text has indeed opened up.
Note: This is in landscape mode with the "backspace" button just
above the letter P.
16. Note: If you checked the box in the advanced section of the
virtual keyboard settings within mobile accessibility, you can also
short press your volume up button in order to cycle between the four
input methods: lowercase, numeric, symbols, and uppercase. When
typing on this keyboard, unless you are already comfortable with
landscape being your preferred orientation, it will take some getting
used to. But keep practicing with it.
17. When you've finished typing in your event subject, tap the top
right-hand corner of your screen. This activates a "next" button
which takes you back to the different areas of the appointment you are
trying to create.
18. If your normal orientation of your device is landscape you won't
have to do anything. However, if it is portrait, you will need to turn
your device back to portrait mode to navigate through here.
19. Use a 1-finger swipe to navigate through and enter as much or as
little information as you want for your event.
Hope this helps!!!
