To be more step-by-step descriptive:

 * use a commissioning script to configure any hardware RAID volumes
   - or do it manually with a rescue mode boot
 * recommission to discover the final volumes
 * design the filesystem structure you want (i.e. which is the boot/root)
 * install as per usual
