the ./configure command isn't a command, it's a shell script that's run to facilitate the setting up of hte source before you compile it. it works out the paths to your c/c++ compilers, what libs you hae on your system, what libs the source needs and whether or not it can function without them, whether or not you want to bild a dynamicly link binary or a staticly linked one. you might want to first, check the permissions on the script, and make sure it's marked as executable.
