Hi Ian. Have you made sure that the address of the mail server is: imap.googlemail.com Not sure of the ports, as I use POP myself.
Also, make sure that Server authentication is enabled, under Preferences, Accounts Tab, then Advanced. By the way, your client may download absolutely loads of emails as your emails may still be on the web server. Mine are and I'm using POP at the moment. The worst scenario would be to delete and recreate the account. Hope this helps. Lewis.
