Good afternoon, There are two schools of thoughts to answer your question, the first one people may say it largely depends on the life cycle of your battery. The second school is which I subscribed to is that it depends on your needs. For instance I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased back in 2008 this computer still continues to work to be is very date. I have not replaced the battery even though Apple tells me that the lifecycle of the battery was only for 300 charges.
