Hello Sarah You can only boot an IntelĀ® Mac using the Guide partition table. So if you used the Erase tab, (there's no format tab in Disk Utility), it must have already been partitioned correctly. There's no getting around it Sarah; you must use that partition scheme and that's all there is to it.
