Hello everybody; me again. Those of you who saw this elsewhere in Gordon's name
will understand why. ;-)

I just attempted to upgrade to OSX 10.7 Server in the app store. Well, I used
the Apple "Up to date" programme as I bought a computer just a week ago.
Actually, I'm a bit miffed about that because Apple never warned me that an
updated model of the Mac Mini Server was just hours away from being introduced.
This new model has an Intel I7 processor in it which, of course, beats the
pants off the Core2 Duo. The last time this happened was back in 2005 and
Apple warned me at that time of the impending release and gave me the option to
wait. This time, they just went ahead and completed the sale and it was only a
matter of hours afterwards that the website changed and the new machine became
available at a cheaper price as well.

Anyway to the point. I went to the Apple Up To Date programme and entered the
serial number of the machine. After selecting all the correct information on
the form, making sure I filled out the Mac OSX Server section, I clicked on
Qualify System. No matter what I did, I was getting an "Invalid Serial Number"
error, even though the serial number and computer type were correct.

So eventually I just entered the serial number and hit Continue. And guess
what! It worked! So what was the point of the qualify system button? Total
bodge-up on Apple's part it would seem.

So then I went to the App store and tried to redeem the codes. The App store
subsequently crashed, and the server code wouldn't redeem again. So, I wasted
a couple of hours trying everything to redeem that version. I went to the
"Purchases" option in the App Store, and clicked on the link that gave me my
purchase date. I was prompted to "Install" the Server which, on this machine
is not what I want to do. I want to port it over to a new machine. So where
would I find the application? It isn't in /Applications/ nor in
/Applications/Utilities. So where on earth would it be?

This is really really frustrating and I hope that nobody else gets this
frustration. I'm really annoyed about that sale though. Apple certainly
didn't do me any favours there!

Lynne
