Subject: Nic thank you: Re: making lion disk
Well explained! As I accomplish this task, I will learn several new things
about the Mac. Example, vo plus shift n is basically a right click.

Hello Mark,
I just went ahead and did it, so I can certainly confirm that it works.
the disk image takes a while to read when booting from it, but I'm sure
there's reason for that given its 3.74GB size. However, you do have
access to all the utilities such as online help, Time Machine Restore,
Reinstall Mac OS X and lastly, Disk Utility. I'm guessing that if booting
off of the DVD, it'd just use the disk image to install Lion when
clicking Reinstall, in order to get a clean installation if you wipe your
drive first.
1) Locate the Install Mac OS X Lion.app file in your Applications folder.
You can get here by hitting Command-Shift-A from the Finder.
2) When you find the file, press Vo-Shift-M. This brings up the
contextual menu, which is essentially a right click.
3) Select "Show Package Contents."
4) Open up the Contents folder, then "SharedSupport." Find the file
called InstallESD.dmg, which should be the first file which has focus
when arrowing down, then hit Command-C.
5) Go to the desktop or any other directory, then hit Command-V to paste
the disk image. I prefer to paste it when mounting it, just to ensure I
don't damage the original. Hit Command-O to mount it. Mac OS X will
verify the disk image.
6) Now, open up Disk Utility when the image is mounted. To get to the
Utilities folder quickly, hit Command-Shift-U from the Finder then hit D
I S, then open Disk Utility.
7) In the table containing your disks, move down. You can either interact
with the table with VO-Down arrow, or use the down arrow key until you
get to InstallESD:dmg.
8) When on the disk image, pop in a blank DVD. Hit VO-Home on your
keyboard to get to the toolbar. The home key is usually FN-left arrow, so
that translates to FN-VO-Left arrow. Interact with the toolbar, then
VO-right until you get to "Burn" and select the appropriate options for
your disk.
That should be all. Good luck, and I hope it works out well for you.
Remember that, in order to boot off of a DVD, you hold down the C key for
several secondswhen hearing the startup chime.
Regards,
Nic

I have 2 post on how to do this. But, my brain can not comprehend them
One, I do not know how to do a right click.
Nor, could I follow where the "DMG" file is located.
Would some kind person take pity on me and lead me through the process,
before I download Lion?
Thank you for all your help!
Mark.
