I am guessing that the keyboard will work on standard
alcoline batteries which, when new, are a bit more than 1.5 volts per cell.
Most of the common rechargables used to be nickel-cadmium and
now are nickle metal hydride and have a fully-charged voltage of
about 1.25 volts which is about 83% of 1.5 volts.
They won't run quite as long between recharges as do
single-use batteries and, depending on how quickly a single-use
battery normally takes to run down, you may be disappointed in
the results.
Television remotes, for example can go years on a set of
batteries but rechargable cells self-discharge over time as if
something had been left turned on so one might need to recharge
the remote every few weeks or less so the single-use batteries
actually are cheaper in the long run.
