Hi Esther.

I would mostly purchase books from the device, considering I'm nmore likely to purchase books when I'm away from home and looking for something to read. I made an account when I first purchased Kobo which was some time ago. I'll go check out the website from my ios device and see how it goes. Idid update but I expect eventually we wouldnt be able to purchase books from within the app.

Hi Maria and Karly,

I can use the main Kobo website at:
http://kobobooks.com/

Their site is not optimized for mobile device use, however, so they would
really be better off redesigning a mobile version of their web page. This
suggestion is a frequent comment in the response to their blog post. For one
thing, you need to sign in to your account either at the point where you
purchase a book (in response to prompts), or once on the web site. You can
check a box to have your login remembered, but it's not like the direct
association with your account in app settings. If you visit the site from your
iOS device, you'll be landed in a general search text box.

I've mostly used the web site from my computer, when I had to check for account
purchase history. What I would worry about is whether the account creation is
easy to do for new users who try accessing the web site. I recall it was much
easier to handle from the app. One new feature that is available only through
the web site and not through any apps is the ability to use PayPal for payment.
I read that in the recent blog, but haven't tried it myself. So perhaps
that's a potential plus for the web site.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi All,

Those of you who use the Kobo app on your iOS devices should know that the
latest update (version 4.5.1 released July 23, 2011) will remove the ability to
purchase books from directly in the app. This affects the Kindle App, Google
Books App, and Wall Street Journal App, too (although not all these are
accessible), with regards to no longer permitting purchasing contents through
the app, in compliance with Apple's policies.

Here's an excerpt from the Kobo blog:

Changes from Apple affects Kobo’s iPhone/iPad App (July 23, 2011)

Earlier today Apple in sti tuted new rules which affect your experience on
iPhone and iPad apps. The biggest change is the removal of the ability to shop
within our app.

Here’s what this means for Kobo users:

• Your books are safe! You can continue to use the Kobo app to read them,
explore Reading Life, and enjoy all the other fun and engaging reading features
from Kobo you’re familiar with.

• With this change, iOS users wishing to access their Kobo account,
browse the Kobo Store, and purchase books will now need to go to Kobo.com

• You can still browse Kobo’s selection of 2.4 million eBooks, shop and
access your account! Go to Kobo.com by directly opening and using their Safari
browser or using your favourite web browser on your phone. Be sure to bookmark
the store for future visits!

I don't know whether the current app will continue to function for store
purchase past July 30th, but you may not want to update this app if you have it.

Cheers,

Esther
