Hi Anne and list, Thanks for the suggestion. One of my reinstalls was forced as a result of changing all subfolders under the volume to read/write which appeared to render Lion unbootable.
I checked permissions all down the path -- e.g. I have read/write access to the volume itself and /applications, yet when I attempt to copy a file there from my external drive I receive the -8058 error. This occurs for all files/folders when my Lion drive is the target. Come to think of it, after my first installation of Lion I was able to copy my backed up iTunes library to the /user/userid/music but could not get anything else to copy. So far I have not been able to manually copy anything to any location. I agree that this is a permission issue because iTunes can copy from my external drive, or import cds. Therefore, the system has access, but an admin user does not. It seems impractical though to write a script every time I need to write to my hd (if that would even work). This is a weird one!! Again, any/all ideas would be greatly appreciated. Hello Geoff, I had a related problem with the Infovox iVox voices. I couldn't activate them using my codes until I'd changed permissions on the Preferences folder at root level. The next time I repaired permissions, they were set back to what they were before I changed them. I changed everything to Read and Write. I'll probably try contacting support again tomorrow, but am curious whether anyone here has any suggestions? I'd rather not try updating from my last SnowLeopard timeMachine backup because as I discovered last night I had already installed iTunes 10.4 (an update I've been declining on Lion). I've got to believe that others with this hardware have performed clean installs, hence wonder if VO could be a factor somehow, since the support lines would doubtless be ringing off the hook if this affected the entire community of mid 2010 13 in MBP users? > > TIA for any suggestions, and best regards. > Geoff > <--- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net ---> > > To reply to this post, please address your message to [email protected] > > You can find a monthly formatted archive of all messages posted to the Mac-Access forum at the following URL: > <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html> > > The Mac-Access mailing list is guaranteed malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and worm-free! > > Please remember to update your membership options periodically by visiting the list website at: > <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/mac-access/options/> <--- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net ---> To reply to this post, please address your message to [email protected] You can find a monthly formatted archive of all messages posted to the Mac-Access forum at the following URL: <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html> The Mac-Access mailing list is guaranteed malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and worm-free!
