Dear list

I am a new member here and intend to purchase my Imac next week after
receiving a eye watering quotation.
After being a Windows user for many years I have been trying to investigate
Accessible Mac versions of software that has been essential for me over the
years. I have made enquiries on the British Computer Association of the
blind Mailing List but the response to my requests there have been
ominously silent. I hope that the range of accessible software on the Mac
is not limited but cannot find information on the web about several
important utilities for me. I am hoping for better luck here.
I copy below the first email which nobody responded to on the BCAB list.
Rather than list all the utilities I need I will mention them one at a time
to make responses easier.
Dear List

In the next couple of weeks I will probably be purchasing my first Mac. I am
insecure about whether the Mac will match the flexibility of my current
capacity of my windows setup. I will eventually be burning my windows
bridges I guess.
However, there are a number of must have utilities, which I use all the
time on my windows machine, which I must get reassurance that I will be
able to get equivalent capacity for on the Mac. I have been searching
various access guides for the Mac including Accessible Apps pages but the
information I need is not there. I wonder if I could ask Mac members to
help with comments on these utilities over the next few days.

The first app I need comments on is a utility to increase the volume of mp3
and hopefully wma files. I need this as I am hearing impaired and many
devices, including my phone, are too quiet on mp3 playback without this
boost.
I currently achieve this very easily and satisfactorily using a free windows
utility called Mp3Gain which is completely accessible. This is a great
program and allows my sister, also hearing impaired, to listen for example
to audio books on a mp3 player that would otherwise be too quiet.
I note that there is a Mac version of Mp3Gain but I do not know if it is
accessible with voiceover. The program is on the following link.
http://homepage.mac.com/beryrinaldo/AudioTron/MacMP3Gain/
There is a worrying message about file corruption which was never a problem
with the Windows versions of this program, but the application has been a
joy to use on XP over the years so I will probably risk it on the Mac if it
is accessible.
If anybody could tell me if the app is accessible that would be great.
Alternatively does anybody else use a utility to increase the volume of mp3
files?

Regards

David Griffith
