Hi Graham, I'm afraid I don't have any ideas as to how you can deal with your current situation, short of a reformatted hard drive and starting over from scratch. However, I can say that normally, Migration assistant will give you choices as to what to migrate, and you can select whether you want your user account copied over for instance. I've done this several times with no issues, while I was beta testing Lion. Now, if your MacBook is running SL, I've been told there's an update to Migration Assistant to make it Lion-ready which you might need to install. I'd recommend a general policy of keeping your software as up to date as possible, if you don't do this already. Sorry I can't be more directly helpful. Best, Zack.
