Hello everybody Please be advised that a significant update has just been made to the list policy document which you may read at any time. You may find this document at: <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/Mac-Access-Welcome.html>.
We have, with the greatest of reluctance, just implemented a significant list policy change which will affect any new subscribers to the group. From this point onward, anybody applying to join this group must now be approved by either one of the list controllers or by ourselves as the list owners; usually the latter, as we have no desire to add to the burden placed on our assistants. This step is something we have, as I said, taken most reluctantly owing to the unacceptable number of times we're getting people coming to us saying "Will you remove me from this list". Put simply, we just don't have the time to continually keep modifying people's memberships in this way, with the best will in the word. We have lives to live; and we're not here 24/7 to manage subscriptions. Therefore, we now feel that the only way we can really find out if somebody is interested, as well as guard against the unwanted, is to vet all subscription requests manually and, thereby we hope to reduce to a minimum the number of people who join for a couple of days or, as has happened recently, join to take advantage of our discount offers and then leave. That latter practice is intolerable, and won't be permitted to continue as it puts both the group as a whole and also our relationship with developers and vendors in jeopardy. Thus. we have opted to take this step. Those of you still awaiting our fulfilment of your request to remove you from the group, please be advised that there are links to remove yourself in the headers of each message which is delivered to this group. If you do not have headers displayed, please see the links at the foot of this and all posted messages for further assistance. Our request that you do this yourself is nothing personal. It's simply a matter of time; we don't have enough of it. It is now past 4 in the morning our time, and neither Gordon nor I have slept for 2 nights now due to problems we are currently facing. This type of problem is the reason why we have had to try and reduce the amount of unnecessary support requests. It wouldn't be fair to impose upon our assistant list controllers to do this work; they also have lives to live and we do not wish to alienate anybody. We regret any inconvenience this may cause to you. If you really really really can't manage to remove yourself or if there are any extenuating circumstances, we are not unreasonable; and we will listen to your explanations. But we feel that in the ordinary event it is time to act. Further, if you're going on vacation, (holiday), it is not necessary to unsubscribe to prevent the flow of mail to your inbox while you're away. Instead, you simply use your list password as described in the help document which Gordon wrote outlining in very great detail how to manipulate your mail subscription to the groups we run. This document may be found here: <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/List-Portal.html> and it will, amongst other useful command syntax, detail how to temporarily suspend mail by use of the "Set Delivery" command. As always if you have questions or comments, feel free to write us off list by means of the support address. We don't object in the slightest to helping anybody; it's just the unnecessary which we are trying to reduce.
