The first thing you need to do is download the latest update, it came out just 
a few hours ago and many shortcut issues have been solved to start with.

I have no trouble with the 1 Password software itself, that is to say I can use 
the software without a problem but the Safari extension has been causing 
trouble, this has been well documented and - as shown in the updates available 
- problems are being rectified, the latest beta for the extension is probably 
the most stable and functional I've seen thus far.

anyway what happens here? Well when I launch 1 Password, I'm prompted to enter 
my unlock code which I do, you then hear the unlocking sound from your Mac and 
the focus then switches to the search field, you can get back to this point at 
any time by pressing command-option-f

I dont know whether the window layout affects the way the software works but it 
may do, I have mine set to wide view.
