But that's something he's actually going to have to do because we're now in a situation where we need a database which we can update easily and maintain without too much hassle. I'd better go and get the Lion patch I guess, since it looks like Gordon and I are now in our third night without sleep. Thank you for reminding me about this task; I will go and get it right now. I've recently begun using Bento version 4 on my Mac and am liking it more all the time. I've found it to be very accessible with VO, although I can point out a few glitches as with almost any application. A patch was recently released to add Lion compatibility and it seems to be working fine so far. I find it to be simple to create new databases and have been able to import existing data files. It also automatically links to my iCal Events, iCal Tasks, Address Book, and photo libraries, and I like the fact that I can view and edit all of these in the tabular format offered within Bento. I've never used another database with a screen reader, so I don't have a reference point for screen reader ease-of-use regarding Bento. It took me some trial and error to figure out where I needed to interact, where I needed to press Return, and where I could just start typing to get the results I wanted, but after a few hours I felt pretty comfortable and really began moving along. I haven't tried any of the advanced formulas or fields yet, so can't speak to that level. I've also used the Bento iPhone App and have found it to be VO accessible too, but it has crashed on me a couple of times with no obvious cause. No data was lost. It is simple to setup wi-fi syncing between the iphone and mac apps, and there's also an iPad-specific version which I'm looking forward to testing. A note about the Bento for Mac PDF User Guide: I find it to be clear, concise, and easily navigable in Preview. It is a great example of a getting started guide, but it does not go very deep into the application. Fortunately, there are active User groups out there. As of this writing, Bento 4 is on sale in the Mac App Store and direct from FIleMaker for US $29.99, normally US $49.99. I don't know if the sale also applies outside of the US.
