Dear list,

I was inspired by the recent podcasts from Vision Australia to try
again to understand the new spelling correction and spelling completion
features in Lyon.
I found that If I am in Text edit, just like the brief demonstrations,
I can use the features. Unfortunately the moment I try to use them in either
Mail or Pages they don't seem to work consistently or at all.

First these are two different things. The spelling correction is the feature
that makes a sound while you type and you can press down arrow to select a
spelling correction.

The other feature is one I didn't know about before. With this one you can
start to type a word then press escape. you will then be given a list of
possible words that you might want. Selecte it press enter and it is placed in
the document. This would be very nice for a bad speller like me.

So, here is what I have found. All these features work for me in Text Edit.
but they only half work in Mail and they don't work at all in Pages. I've
looked everywhere for settings in preferences but can't find a way to get
things to work.

Here is a specific example. In mail in the subject edit field if I spell a
word wrong I'm given a list of options. Now in the message field I am told the
word is mis spelled but no correction sound and no choices. Also the word
completion does not work at all.

Does anyone have these working in mail or pages? Any tips on how I can get
them to work? I'm pretty sure the word correction used to work in the mail
message area but somewhere along the way it stopped.

As Esther and others have pointed out in the past the Vision Australia podcasts
are very helpful and they have many on using Lyon.

Again suggestions wanted! As a poor speller, I would like to take advantage of
these features.
