I thought I should feed back on Mp3 Gain for Mac. This is a freeware utility
which I used a lot whilst I was on the Windows side. It has been redesigned
with a Mac style interface and so far I have been very pleased with it. As far
as I can tell all the features are accessible with Voiceover.

MP3 Gain losslessly edits Mp3 files so that the
default playback volume of a file is adjusted. For example I put Audio books
onto a Phillips Mp3 player for my sister to listen to. She is hearing impaired
and will struggle to hear the the books even at maximum volume on the Phillips.
Using Mp3 Gain I increase the inbuilt mp3 setting of perhaps 89 db to 99 db.
The result is that she is able to hear the Mp3 files fine on her Phillips.

There is limited feedback on the progress of conversion but the program does
announce when the conversion is completed. A Google search for Mp3Gain for Mac
should turn up this utility with no problems. There is a warning about I-Tunes
files but on the vanilla mp3 files I have been working with there has been no
problem. . David Griffith
