It's a pop3 account, unfortunately, or at least that's how I set it up!

I am not sure how much can still be done with mobile me, since it is being
replaced by the iCloud service.  Also, since I am not yet using Lion, I am
not sure if the how the preferences have changed in the new mail program.
However, if all of your e-mail coming into the computer is using IMAP< then
you do not really need to worry  about losing messages if you delete the
account on your macintosh and then add it back in.
