Hi James I'm not sure if this is related to what you're talking about here. But I frequently see issues where VoiceOver doesn't see elements on a web page. Not just links, edit boxes, check boxes, combo boxes, (what Apple called a "Pulldown"), and other element.
I'm not sure it's a VO issues; because if I refresh the page, they usually come back as visible. I'm not using Crome, I haven't even tried it actually, but would be very interested in doing so if I could find the thing for Mac. Must look on Google. How accessible is Chrom and how well does it work with VoiceOver in terms of accessibility? Thanks, and it is really rest to be back in the land of the living, so to speak.
