Hi James No, I don't think you can change the way it handles messages. We too are using the classic layout because, to be honest, I haven't exactly been on top form lately and wanted something I could just use.
I'm going to play around with the modern layout shortly to see if it's any more usable so we'll see. I haven't ever encountered the "See More Links" in any message.
