Hi Dónal,

Just as a followup to Colin's note, the ptaccess group was set up to be
archived at the Mail Archive site. That means that you can read through the
current post discussions at:
http://www.mail-archive.com/ptaccess%40googlegroups.com/
and you can also easily search the archives and read up and down threads just
as you can for our list by using:
http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access%40mac-access.net/
(For Lynne, I now do most of my archive access and searching for recent items
on this list through the Mail Archive site).

You're going to find a lot of discussion on the Mbox Pro as far as hardware
goes. I'm not on the list, and have only recalled a few peripheral posts on
other lists. However, pre-Lion one of the recommendations was to buy a
specific version of this device on eBay, because it comes bundled with software
that includes a usable (read that as accessible) version of Protools.

Sorry if that is garbled, but hope this is of some use. It also used to be the
case that some pro audio users worried about the exact version of the chipset
that was in their Mac computers. This is because there is an issue of latency
that affects the connected device. This is a link to an old post (end of
February this year) from someone who was thinking about using the 27 inch iMac.
You can read down the thread (using Control-n in Safari) to see my answer and
the subsequent discussion. My reply post gave links to the then-current status
of the Firewire chipset issue and work-arounds for older Mac computers from
the ProSound web site.

I'm curious about how this issue may be transformed by later use of Thunderbolt
instead of Firewire, but those connectors are not yet industry standard for
existing equipment.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
