Hello James,

Could you be more specific about what you're trying to do. I assume you've 
checked "Facing pages" in the Document tab of the Document Inspector? This 
changes Left and Right to Inside and Outside margins thus enabling you to 
specify a gutter.

I can't help any further without more information.
