Hi Jim, A couple of thoughts: 1. Do you or any of your family already have an apple ID associated with the email address where you're expecting to receive the verification email? I had a similar issue and found out it was caused by my having already associated this email with another apple ID. Apparently this can cause the issue you're seeing. I was able to find out about this other ID by using the link named "Not sure if you have an Apple ID?" which you can find at the following page. https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
2. I've read some reports where Users of gmail addresses were able to get around this issue by editing their apple ID and adding a single period somewhere in their email address and saving the changes. It Sounds risky to me, but it might work. You might want to google the words "iCloud email verification problem" as there are several threads active on the issue and a number of posts give details on the use of this method.
