Thanks for all the replies, they will certainly make using adium a much better experience for me.
This does highlight an issue I've been thinking about for a while though. Switching to the Mac is hard, not just because you're using a new OS and screen reader, but because yu need to learn to use each program from scratch. It would be great if there was some sort of resource, like a Mac starter kit, for vO users. It would list the best programs to use for all the basic tasks and have instructions on how to both set up and use each App. Anyone fancy doing this?
