I thought it was ITredmil, but I removed that app over a month ago and all
data. still does the sound

Yeah sounds like amail thing. and the mail sound is kind of a g tone
thats kind of short. Or talk box. That can be killed but it will still
receive pushes. Many apps will receive alerts even though they are
killed from the app switcher.

you tried killiong all the apps and checking for the app in question
under notifications? and di dou check the notifications area in ios5?

Check the notifications area. or it might be yoru mail app as well.
You can modify the push settings under mail in settings.
