You can try a sim-link to the file, but I'm not sure if that will
work or not, since the ftp folder usually doesn't follow sim-links.
However, if you want to try it, you'll need a terminal prompt, then
change to the folder where the user's home folder is located, and
type something like:
ln -s filename /Volumes/machd/users/shared/file
This will create a new file in their home folder named filename, and
will sim-link it to the file located in the /users/shared folder that
is called file.
The permissions on te file should be set so that the user has read
access to the file (since all users are in the same group, the
default is to give read access automatically), and assuming the ftp
file system allows sim-links, they will be able to download the file.
There is no method of handling this task via the finder, so terminal
is it, unless you create an apple script to do the job for you (which
btw wouldn't be difficult), if you need help with it, drop a line,
and I'll see what I can do for you.
hth.
